Very preliminary work on a Day of the Dead piece for an upcoming juried art show at Union Street Art Gallery in Park Forest, IL. If accepted it will hang with other work exemplifying the theme: Perspective: Any Way You Look at It. My interpretation of the theme deals with Death. This work will be submitted with an earlier work I did about my son Will's death.
The deadline for postmarked CDS is August 1st so I really have to make decisions and move forward quickly with this piece. I envision plenty of handwork and may have to seriously evaluate the time involved in order to get it done.
These Day of the Dead fabrics are from Alexander Henry.

This is awesome, Debra.
Stupendous work here. I hope you totally go for it during the next week....
This will be fabulous. I bet you wouldn't be surprised to hear that I have most of those skull fabrics stashed away in a drawer...
It's good to see you working on Madonnas again, and I'm looking forward to working on the one on my desighn wall.
That skulls with roses fabric really grabs my attention, especially if you compare them to the others, whose colors and images are more sedate. It definitely makes the quilt more scary and less playful.
I'll be posting my Madonna-in-progress soon.
I love the colorful skull fabric near the top of the page used on the tepeyac quilt that you embroidered over. Could you please tell me where you got it? It is gorgeous. Any help you can provide would be great. nice work! : )
